Nordic by Nature: modern design & print

Glass panel ‘Strata’
5 August – 31 October 2019
Artists and designers have long been inspired by the varied and dramatic landscapes of Nordic countries. This new British Museum touring exhibition explores how nature and landscape is at the heart of post-war Finnish, Swedish, Danish and Norwegian design and prints.
We are delighted to participate in this exciting exhibition at Old Gala House in Galashiels.
The exhibition brings together an eclectic range of pieces, including Swedish prints and glass works alongside experimental and minimalist works from Denmark, including Erik Magnussen’s (1940-2014) revolutionary table wares of the 1960s. Exhibition highlights include pioneering pieces by one of the leading figures in Finnish design, glassmaker Tapio Wirkkala (1915-1985) and Finnish basket maker, Markku Kosonen (1945-2010).
You are invited to a reception and exhibition opening on Friday 9 August 2019 18.30–20.00
