Lindean Mill Glass - Pool Plate

ROBERT HARRIS WINS 2014 WALTER SCOTT PRIZE at the Brewin Dolphin Borders Book Festival in Melrose.

Robert Harris has won the £25,000 Walter Scott Prize for Historical Fiction for his novel about the Dreyfus affair, An Officer and a Spy.

In keeping with tradition, the Duke of Buccleuch also presented him with a contemporary piece of glass; a Pool Plate from Lindean Mill. In the words of the Duke, “a place Walter Scott would have passed on his way to the Selkirk Court House.”

A Glass Act celebrates the diversity and relevance of contemporary glass tableware and features numerous functional objects for domestic use from the everyday glass tumbler through to intricate candelabras and everything in between.

The exhibition brings together work which explores how we use, understand and value glassware and considers why so many craftspeople focus on items for the table. Through glass that is blown, cast, kiln formed, fused and engraved each object displayed offers an individual response that explores the potential of this medium.
