Catching the Light – Contemporary Glass Exhibition Blackwell House, Blackwell, Bowness-On-Windermere

Abstraction of both human forms and landscape can be seen in the impressive panels of Annica Sandstrom.
Working with her glass-maker husband, David Kaplan, she cuts and fuses pieces of monumental simplicity. As with much of the best work, it is hard to appreciate the scale of these pieces until they are seen in context.
Annica uses a soft and subtle colour palette, or works with the contrasts of black, white or clear glass. The panels show a strong yet feminine sensibility - the refined shapes and muted colours provide echoes of her Scandinavian roots.
